At 94, Father Gitter received a “promotion” the very day this painting was begun. He was known as a true man of God. People said that they could feel the presence of the Holy Spirit just being in the same room with him.
Aloys Gitter’s spiritual depth did not come from his priestly role, or from perfect doctrine, or by the systematic exegesis of the original translations of the Bible. His depth came from years of giving his ALL -heart, soul, mind, and strength- to loving his Lord. Each day he surrendered himself to God and God’s love flowed through him in a way that could not be denied.
I would like to die like that. To have lived and loved so successfully that people would say they felt the presence of the Spirit whenever they were near. There is no greater compliment possible.
